The satellite is currently unable to transmit images. And the cyberattack affected his work, Vladimir Taftai said.
The Ukrainian satellite Sich-2-30 communicates regularly, but operates in a limited mode, including due to cyber attacks. This was said by the head of the State Space Agency of Ukraine Volodymyr Taftai informing Suspіlna on Wednesday, August 23.
“Unfortunately, now there are questions about the operation of the Sich-2-30 satellite. Currently, enterprises in the space industry, in particular Yuzhnoye Design Bureau, which developed and created this satellite, are preparing of the final operational report of this device and its flight tests,” said Taftai. .
He clarified that the satellite is currently unable to transmit images. And the cyberattack affected his work.
“In fact, the first opposition to the satellite operation was recorded in January, in particular, a cyber attack, and some other similar measures. They are not directly related to the military invasion, but could be their precursor, Taftai added. .
Recall that in January of this year, SpaceX launched the Sich-2-30 satellite into space. Shortly thereafter, the spacecraft developed problems in orbit. The State Space Agency then called this criticism unfounded.
The media also reported that the Cabinet of Ministers obtained an intermediary instead of a direct contract with SpaceX. Therefore, instead of the $1 million planned in the contract, $1.8 million had to be paid.
