Image of Jupiter taken by the spacecraft using three filters – F360M (red), F212N (yellow-green) and F150W2 (cyan).
The James Webb Space Telescope has taken two new images of Jupiter that will give scientists more clues to the inner life on the planet. This was reported by NASA.
These two images were taken with the observatory’s Near Infrared Camera (NIRCam), which has three special infrared filters that show the details of the planet.
“Honestly, we didn’t expect it to be this beautiful. It’s really remarkable that we can see the details of Jupiter with its rings, small moons and even galaxies in the same image,” said astronomer Imke de Pater, emeritus professor at the University. of California. at Berkeley.
In particular, the first image of Jupiter represents a bright spot – it is a giant storm that could swallow the whole Earth. They appear white in these shots, like other clouds, because they reflect a lot of sunlight.
The bright orange glow above and below the planet reflects the planet’s northern and southern lights, which are located at opposite poles.
In the second picture, you can see the rings, which, according to NASA, are several times fainter than Jupiter itself. The image also captures two satellites – Adrastea and Amalthea, located in the extreme left corner of the rings.
