It’s a cold shower. Computer sales are decreasing. They fell 12.6% in the second quarter, according to Gartner worldwide, or 10 million fewer PCs were sold in a year. The plunge was more impressive in Europe and the United States, where sales fell 18% and 17.5%, respectively.
Customers beat all predictions. Analysts, manufacturers and subcontractors, however, raced optimistically for 2022. They saw a market firmly established in 2020 and 2021, during the pandemic, at levels between 320 and 340 million devices sold. Demand was then driven by companies and consumers looking to equip themselves for teleportation, home entertainment, gaming, learning, and more. But the comeback was short-lived.
