The laser-processed system allowed German scientists to develop a new technology for cold brewing coffee.
A group of scientists from the German University of Duisberg-Essen (UDE) used a laboratory laser, with which they were able to brew cold coffee so that it does not get cold, for example, by adding ice. Slashgear reported it.
In particular, they investigated, it was tuned so that it gave pulses with an energy of 125 picojoules with a duration of ten picoseconds. The whole thing goes through a mixture of ground coffee and water for three minutes. According to the source, the beam passes through the drink up to 80,000 times per second.
As a result, we got a drink that is not inferior to the classic cold brew, which requires infusion from eight to 24 hours. Also, the so-called laser brew has almost the same acidity, and the caffeine level is closer to regular hot coffee.
However, according to scientists, it is possible to make laser coffee more aromatic and contain more caffeine by brewing it for a few minutes.
The team has high hopes for commercialization and plans to work on a mass-produced laser coffee brewing system that can later be used in coffee shops and other places.
It was previously reported that scientists from the Weizmann Institute of Science in Israel created the world’s first “synthetic embryo” of mice.
