The new type of battery operates at room temperature and can be a safer alternative to traditional lithium.
A team of scientists from the University of Jilin and the Chinese Academy of Sciences announced a breakthrough in the field of energy storage: they managed to create the first battery in the world stable at room temperature using hydride ion (negatively charged with hydrogen ion) as a charge of carriers. The South China Morning Post reported it.
According to researchers, the new electrolyte of rare-earth elements provides a capacity of up to 984 m. H per gram-it is six times more than the usual lithium-ion elements (150-300 mAh/g). During trials, a multi -layer prototype with a voltage of 1.9 to the LED successfully fed the LED, proving the practical flexibility of the technology.
The key to success is the integration of hydrid ceria with a shell from barium hydride: the material shows high speed conduction of hydride ions at room temperature and recognizes himself in stability.
Although after 20 charges and releases of cycles, the container fell to 402 MAH/G, scientists believe it can be corrected thanks to methods that have already worked in the field of hydrogen storage. It is also important that the use of hydrides ion potentially prevents the development of dendrites- “metal spikes”, reducing the durability and safety of lithium accumulations.
Reminding, earlier it was reported that the first Sodium-ion pavorbank in the world was shown in Japan.
