The Russian economy shows “high speed development”, although it is not done without problems, Dmitry Peskov assured.
The Russian government has provided the administration of the ruler of the ruling Russian Federation regime all the necessary arguments in favor of the increase in tax value (VAT) from 20 to 22%. This is said by the Press Secretary of the Kremlin Dmitry Peskov.
“The argument is convincing, rational. The actions are thought of,” Russian official assured.
He also says that the Russian economy shows “high development rate”, though it is not done without problems.
“But, in general, the stability is clear,” Peskov said.
It should be noted that the Ministry of Finance of the Russian Federation has suggested to increase the VAT a second time in seven years to send additional funds to supply defense and security.
At the same time, Putin ordered to “adjust the basic tax parameters until 2030”, and two weeks ago emphasized that the government had to increase budget revenues, but without tax increases.
VAT is a major tax for the Russian Federation budget. In 2024, he provided about 37% of all federal treasury revenues, or 13.5 trillion rubles. The last time the authorities raised it in 2019 – from 18 to 20%.
In 2025, the Ministry of Finance planned that the federal budget deficit would not exceed 1.17 trillion rubles, or 0.5% of GDP. However, according to January-August results, it increased to a record of 4.19 trillion rubles, or 1.9% of GDP.
Keep in mind that budget problems and the announced tax increases have led to a collapse of prices and increasing revenues of Russian stateboards.
In Russia, they talked about an increase in VAT
