For the first time, Chinese biologists managed to create mice with DNA of two men. Adults not only survived, but were able to give children.

For the first time in history, scientists have managed to create rats with the genetic material of the two men.

Both individuals survived until old age and became fertile – this means they can have their own children. The study of Chinese scientists has been published in the Journal PNAS, IFLSCIENCE reports.

Earlier, biologists created rats from two mothers’ DNA, but attempts to repeat it to fathers became unsuccessful: the embryos stopped developing. The reason is in the phenomenon known as genomic imprinting, when some genes are activated or off depending on the gender of the parents.

At this time, a team from Shanghai University has applied a new approach. Two spermatozoa of different men were introduced into the egg with a distant core, after which they reprogram their DNA using CRISPR/CAS9 technology – especially, editing genes responsible for imprinting.

As part of the experiment, more than 250 have changed embryos of women. Only two rats survived – both men. They grew up, had children, but showed a low level of survival, and most rats in such cases did not reach aging or remained unproductive.

“This is a major study of scientific. Although editing these nature genes are not applied to humans, the main conclusion is that our work provides an idea of the genetic barriers of the same -SEX reproduction to mammals,” the co -Author of the work of ZHI -kun Lee is an explanation.

Although the prospects for the practical use of such technologies – from cloning to the preservation of endangered species – seem to be promising, they are still far from their public use.

Earlier it was reported that the Chinese Pets Cloning Company announced the birth of the first cloned Arctic Wolf worldwide, taken by the surrender mother – Bigl.
