As part of the test, the rocket launched a test payload into orbit – a prototype Blue Ring vehicle.
The New Glenn heavy-duty launch vehicle made its first test flight. This was announced on Thursday, January 16, by the American company that is developing the Blue Origin carrier for the billionaire and founder of Amazon.com, Jeff Bezos.
The launch took place from Launch Complex 36A of the US Space Force base at Cape Canaveral in Florida at 02:03 US East Coast time (09:03 Kyiv time).
As part of the tests, the rocket launched a test payload into orbit – a prototype Blue Ring vehicle capable of moving satellites around the Earth’s orbit. Such needs sometimes arise with commercial and government customers.
However, the first multiple rocket failed its planned landing on the Jacklyn offshore platform in the Atlantic. He fell into the ocean.
The 98-meter-tall New Glenn rocket consists of two stages. The first is reusable, can be used up to 25 times. The carrier is capable of launching up to 45 tons of payload in low Earth orbit and 13 tons in geostationary orbit.
As you know, in 2021, Blue Origin successfully launched the New Shepard passenger rocket. Since then, he has repeatedly flown into space with tourists.
