An international team of scientists has grown a tree from 1,000-year-old seeds found in a cave near the Dead Sea.

An international team of researchers has grown a unique tree from seeds more than 1,000 years old, found in a cave near the Dead Sea. This is reported by IFScience.

Researchers from Israel, USA, Switzerland, Australia, Sweden and France worked on this project for 14 years. They planted a plant 3 meters tall and named it Sheba.

Sheba belongs to the genus Commiphora, known for its medicinal properties. Scientists suggest that this tree may be the source of the biblical resin “tsori”, which is used to heal wounds. A study of the leaves and resin showed high levels of pentacyclic triterpenoids and squalene, compounds with antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties.

Although the origin of the bones remains a mystery, researchers speculate that they may have been left in the cave by animals or humans. Sheba is a rare example of the revival of an ancient animal species mentioned in biblical texts.

It was previously reported that 23-year-old journalist from Kumasi, Ghana, Abdul Hakim Awal, set the world record for the longest tree hug.
