SpaceX has come under fire over allegations of pollution and violations of environmental standards during Starship testing and launches.
SpaceX has found itself at the center of an environmental scandal over allegations of damage to nearby communities, wildlife and ecosystems during the testing and launch of the Starship rocket. CNBC reported this.
In particular, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) have expressed concern about the discharge of wastewater into waterways, resulting in damage to the nesting and migration sites of endangered species of birds, as well as a fire in Boca Chica state park.
The TCEQ documented 14 incidents related to SpaceX’s water drainage systems and filed a complaint against the company for discharging wastewater without proper permits. Also, according to CNBC, SpaceX bypassed regulatory procedures before the second launch by not obtaining the necessary permits for pollutant emission limits.
Local residents complained of loud noises, dust and debris from the launches, causing damage to their property. In response to the allegations, SpaceX called them “factually inaccurate,” arguing that it continued to work in coordination with the TCEQ and EPA and had not received instructions to cease operations.
It was earlier reported that Elon Musk’s company SpaceX has released the Starlink Mini.
