In the Southern Hemisphere, where the continent of Antarctica is located, you can see 45 constellations that are not available in the Northern Hemisphere.
Ukrainian polar explorers showed pictures of the starry sky above the Antarctic research station Academician Vernadsky. This is a rare phenomenon for that area, as the region is constantly cloudy, the press service of the National Arctic Center reported on Facebook.
“In the Southern Hemisphere, where the continent of Antarctica is located, there is a starry sky. Here you can see 45 constellations that are not accessible in the Northern Hemisphere. The most famous is the Southern Cross at the South Pole, this constellation is depicted in chevron 28 UAE, which wintered at the station last year,” the scientists said.
At the same time, according to them, there are constellations visible from both hemispheres, although sometimes at different times. They are located near the equator. Also, from almost any corner of the Earth you can see the brightest star of the night sky – Sirius or the constellation Canis Major.

We remind you that early Ukrainian polar explorers showed how whales “spy” in Antarctica. In addition, the polar explorers showed a meeting with a leopard seal, which was “sunning” on an ice floe.
