Experts say the world is dangerously close to missing the 2015 Paris Agreement goal of limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius.
April 2024 was the hottest on record. This is stated in the monthly report of the Copernicus Climate Change Monitoring Service (C3S), reports Euractive.
Temperature records have been set for 11 months in a row – since June 2023, every month has been the hottest on record. The global average temperature was the highest in 12 months. That is, 1.61 degrees Celsius higher than the pre-industrial period in 1850-1900.
Greenhouse gas emissions from burning fossil fuels are the main cause of climate change.
This led to extreme weather in April, particularly heat waves in the Sahel.
“The world is dangerously close to missing the 2015 Paris Agreement’s goal of limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius, which would avoid the most catastrophic effects of climate change, such as deadly heatwaves, floods and irreversible destruction of ecosystems,” the scientists said.
We remind you that in 2023 there will be no frost in Kyiv for a long time.
