He must collect at least 2 kg of rock samples, after which they will be sealed in a container and another device will deliver them to an orbiting satellite, which will be sent back to Earth.
China launches lunar probe Chanye-6 over the far side of the Moon. It happened on Friday, May 3. The probe was supposed to collect and deliver rock samples of the planet to Earth in that territory. CGTN reports.
The Long March-5 Y8 launch vehicle with the spacecraft on board took off from the Wenchang Cosmodrome at 12:27 Kyiv time.
Just 37 minutes after launch, Chanye-6 separated from the rocket and entered its planned orbit.
The mission consists of an orbiter, a lander, and a device for delivering collected samples from the surface of the satellite to the orbiter.
Within 48 hours after landing, the lander will collect rocks and soil from the surface of the Moon with a robotic arm and samples of its deeper layers with a drill, and at the same time conduct scientific research that task.
The entire flight will take approximately 53 days.
We remind you that earlier a Chinese probe collected soil samples of the Moon.
