Ukrainian polar explorers are studying how climate change is affecting Antarctic vegetation. To do this, they keep records of the bushes and their distribution.
Polar explorers from the station Academician Vernadsky showed a “green” summer in Antarctica. The shots were taken by Sergey Glotov and Dmitry Martynenko.
“Normally, only snow, ice, sleet and icicles are associated with Antarctica. But today is summer there, and at this time the air temperature fluctuates around 0 ℃,” said the National Antarctic Science Center.
By the way, this summer the high temperature reached +5 ℃ (January 3), and the minimum dropped to -1.2 ℃ (January 12). Under these conditions the snow melts and Antarctica turns green.
“Strange Antarctic vegetation emerges from under the white cap,” added the polar explorers.
