After four small punctures, the hospital’s cardiac surgeons reached the man’s heart muscle, separated the artery from the myocardial fibers, freed the vessel and thus restored the full blood supply.
In Lviv, doctors performed the first heart surgery in Ukraine using DaVinci technology. The press service of the Lviv City Council reported this today, January 30.
It is reported that cardiac surgeons from St. Panteleimon Hospital of the First Medical Association of Lvov carried out a unique intervention: they saved the life of a person with a pre-infarction condition and marked the beginning of a new stage in Ukrainian development. heart surgery.
“The patient is 44-year-old Sergei Sharikov from Volyn. Last year, he had shortness of breath and burning pain in the heart area. He turned to doctors for help. They discovered that Sergei had angina pectoris, which appeared as a result of impaired blood supply to the myocardium, and was prescribed medicine. “It worked and the symptoms disappeared for a while. But after a few months, conservative treatment did not help,” the report said.
Sergei said that due to burning pain and shortness of breath, he could not climb to the third floor, and completely forgot about physical activity – he could not help his wife carry groceries from the store to the car.
After his condition worsened, Sergei went to St. Panteleimon Hospital. After examination, the patient was diagnosed with coronary heart disease. One of the main arteries in Sergei’s heart was narrowed by 80%, that is, it almost did not perform the function of blood supply.
Doctors call this condition pre-infarction. The patient needs immediate heart surgery. Cardiac surgeons, led by the head of the Heart and Vascular Center Roman Domasic, decided to operate on Sergei using the Da Vinci robot. This method of intervention has many advantages: small holes instead of large incisions, precision of implementation and rapid rehabilitation,” the message said.
But no one in Ukraine has ever performed a heart operation using a robotic surgeon, and the hospital’s specialists trained in leading clinics in the USA and Europe and prepared for such a change for almost a year.
“Sergey became the first patient in Ukraine to undergo heart surgery using a robot. Through four small punctures, cardiac surgeons of the hospital reached the man’s heart muscle, separated the artery from the myocardial fibers , freed the vessel and thus restored the full blood supply,” they report, press service of the City Council.
The operation lasted three hours, and on the fourth day after the operation, Sergei went home without complaints.
“Our team is very happy! It was a long journey to carry out such an intervention, but we managed it. And now we are preparing for the next intervention in working with the heart. So, we are on the way to progress. of robotic cardiac surgery in Ukraine,” said happily the head of the Heart and Vascular Center of St. Panteleimon Hospital Roman Domasic.
