In the background, other distant galaxies can be seen, located so far away that they appear to be single stars.
NASA has unveiled a composite image of a distant galaxy that looks like twinkling holiday lights and also resembles a colorful glass globe filled with snow. Space writes about it.
The Hubble Space Telescope photographed an irregularly shaped dwarf galaxy with billions of stars called UGC 8091, located 7 million light-years from Earth.
And to create the glowing effect seen in the image, scientists collected data obtained with the two main cameras of the Hubble telescope for the period from 2006 to 2021.
“The data was put through 12 filters that sampled different wavelengths of light, spanning from mid-ultraviolet to visible red light. The red spots are interstellar hydrogen molecules, and the The ‘sparkles’ inside are older stars,” the team said. “The Hubble telescope isn’t the only holiday-themed image taken in space this year,” the statement said.
Let’s recall that Hubble previously photographed the spiral galaxy IC 1776, located at a distance of more than 150 million light years from Earth.
