The level of detail used to make the baskets was complex at the time.
In southern Spain, archaeologists discovered thousand-year-old sandals and baskets in a cave in Granada. This is reported by Live Science.
Baskets and sandals are believed to have been made by Mesolithic hunter-gatherers. It is known that the sandals are 6200 years old, and the basket is 9500 years old.
“The biggest discovery is the age of baskets – this is a big surprise. Before the advent of agriculture, there were hunter-gatherers. In the past, scientists believed that basket weaving was a Neolithic element, but now we know we know that people were weaving baskets even earlier,” said the study’s lead author. Francisco Martinez-Sevilla from the University of Alcalá.
