There is a possibility that the extreme cold of the moonlit night damaged the batteries. However, ISPRO will continue its efforts to restore communications.
The Indian Space Research Organization (ISPRO) said it has yet to make contact with the Pragyan lunar rover, the BBC reports.
After the Pragyan rover landed in August, it spent two weeks collecting data and images. At the onset of the lunar night, which lasts about 15 days on earth, Pragyan is switched to “sleep mode”.
It is expected that on September 22 at sunrise the modules will be returned to active mode after the lunar rover’s batteries have been recharged.
But there is a possibility that the extreme cold of the moonlit night damaged the batteries. Because of this, I lost contact with Pragyan.
However, ISPRO plans to continue efforts to restore communications.
India became the first country to land a spacecraft near the moon’s south pole after Russia’s attempt to land its Luna 25 shuttle at the same spot failed.
It was earlier reported that the lunar rover Pragyan had stumbled into a dangerous crater.
