Apple released the new augmented (or mixed) reality glasses Apple Vision Pro.
Apple is preparing a new revolution? The company introduced the new augmented (or mixed) reality glasses Apple Vision Pro. This is the first major gadget released by the tech giant in almost decades.
What is this?
According to Apple CEO Tim Cook, the new headset “perfectly blends the real world and the virtual world.” The product was presented at the annual conference for developers Worldwide Developers Conference-2023.
The Apple Vision Pro looks less like VR gadgets and more like a pair of ski goggles. They are designed for two hours of battery life.
In describing how its new device works, Apple uses the words “augmented” or “mixed” reality.
It overlays virtual objects on the world around us, allowing us to connect the reality around us with the virtual. Users can access various applications, watch movies and create documents in the virtual space.
During the presentation, Tim Cook explained that the new device will allow users to “see, hear and interact with digital content as if it were happening in your physical space.” Mirrors are controlled with the help of hands, as well as voice and eyes.
The gadget is not for everyone
The first batch of Apple Vision Pro is set to be released in the US early next year. However, experts have doubts that such a product can be of interest to a wide market. This is probably the reason why, during the report of Apple representatives at the Worldwide Developers Conference-2023, the company’s shares fell slightly in price.
Many are confused by the declared value of Apple Vision Pro. A pair of glasses will cost the consumer $3,499, which is higher than similar products currently on the market.
Hartley Charlton, senior editor of the profile publication MacRumors, is not sure that the novelty will easily conquer the general public.
“At first, the product will not appeal to the mass consumer because of its very high price and the immediate disadvantages inherent in first-generation devices. One of them is a separately wired battery,” said Charlton .
However, he recalled, many Apple products were skeptical at first, and the company has accumulated a lot of experience in overcoming this obstacle.
Apple’s presentation comes a week after Meta and Lenovo announced new versions of their existing VR headsets, which, however, cannot yet overlay objects onto an image of the real world.
Meta has invested heavily in mixed reality, but the sector is currently struggling. According to the International Data Corporation, global sales of virtual reality gadgets dropped 54% last year.
