What is seen from above seems a hundred times more irrational than what is seen from Earth, the specialist emphasized.
European Space Agency ESA German astronaut Matthias Maurer, who returned to Earth from the International Space Station, said the war in Ukraine was visible from space with the naked eye. He said this on the air of the Bild TV channel.
“At first, it was completely dark in the country at night, because all the lights in the cities were reduced. In fact, only Kyiv was recognizable, and the whole country around it was solid darkness,” Maurer said.
According to him, one night he saw lightning and realized they were rockets. Moreover, large and black columns of smoke hung over the occupied cities during the day, especially Mariupol.
“Well, it was very, very visible to the eye from space. And in those moments, I felt much closer to the country than I probably felt from Germany,” Maurer added.
Note that Maurer returned to Earth on May 6. He spent six months on the ISS.
It was previously reported that the European Union will transfer intelligence data into space on the movements of Russian troops in Ukraine.
