Scientists have discovered the mystery of the Mayan calendar

In a new study, scientists have discovered that the Mayan calendar is actually related to the movement of the planets.

Researchers discovered a complex Mayan calendar system that combined astronomy and timekeeping to create their own calculus. This was reported by IFLScience.

The mysterious Mayan calendar can be used to track planetary movements for 45 years, experts say.

Scientists have also noticed that the ancients’ calendar was more complex than our relatively simple system of days, months and years. They used a complex series of interconnected cycles, including a 260-day sacred reckoning known as the Tzolkin, and a 365-day secular calendar, or Haab.

These two cycles synchronize once every 52 years, forming a common calendar period called a calendar circle.

In addition, researchers have found inscriptions that testify to the existence of another cycle that lasted 819 days. Analysis of these texts has shown that each date in this cycle is associated with one of the four cardinal points. To complete the entire period, four periods of 819 days are required. That is, one cycle lasted about nine years.

Researchers have long suspected that this cycle may be related to the planets’ synodic period, which determines the length of time it takes for each planet to return to the same position in the sky as seen from Earth. Mercury, for example, has a synodic period of 117 days, which when multiplied by seven equals the number 819.

According to a new study, 20 cycles of 819 days add up to a total of 16,380 days (about 45 years). These can be divided to match the synodic periods of each planet. Thus, the 20 periods of 819 days coincide with the Mayan cycle.

Earlier it was reported that the researchers deciphered an ancient manuscript, written by Claudius Ptolemy.
