The mission plans to explore Jupiter’s three largest icy moons – Europa, Ganymede and Callisto.
The launch of a rocket from the Juice interplanetary station to Jupiter took place on Friday, April 14, in French Guiana. This rocket is notable for the fact that the drawing of a girl from Ukraine was applied to it – she won the competition in 2021. The European Space Agency (ESA) posted a broadcast of the rocket launch on its channel on YouTube.
The mission will last about eight years. The rocket was painted by a Ukrainian artist Yarina Zakalyuzhna, in which the girl drew Jupiter, its icy moons and the Earth. The illustration of a girl won the Juice up your rocket international competition in 2021.
Engineer Manuela Baroni, who built the interplanetary station, praised the “cute, cheerful and sincere” drawing on the nose of the rocket.
As part of the mission, ESA plans to explore Jupiter’s three largest icy moons – Europa, Ganymede and Callisto. Astronomers suggest that beneath their icy surface are oceans of liquid water.
The purpose of the mission is to study the satellites for the potential for life in their oceans, surfaces, as well as the atmosphere and the rings surrounding Jupiter.
