This weekend Twitter started removing blue ticks from old verified accounts that don’t follow Twitter Blue. A few big names, such as the White House itself, decided not to pay $8 a month, but Elon Muskthe CEO of the company, decided to attack one in particular: The newspaper “New York Times.
“A real tragedy The newspaper “New York Times the fact is that his propaganda is uninteresting, ”Musk wrote. “His profile is tantamount to diarrhea,” he continued.
wicked
On Friday, New York Times foresaw the apocalypse Twitter due to changes in that system, and insisted that he was unwilling to pay for his institutional accounts, which cost up to $1,000 per month.
The Times is one of the most popular profiles Twitter with 55 million followers: he is among the 25 most followed accounts on this social network.
“The real tragedy of @NYTimes is that their propaganda is not even interesting. In addition, its profile is equivalent in Twitter to diarrhea. It’s unreadable. They would have a lot more real followers if they only published their most important articles,” the businessman shared on his account.
For Musk, the hypocrisy is that the newspaper does not want to pay for this subscription when it forces readers to pay for its web service in order to read its content.

grace weeks
The vast majority of blue-labeled accounts continue to maintain this distinction, although when you click verify, a “verified because it follows Twitter Blue” or “is an outdated verified account” legend appears.
Elon Musk announced that it would give verified accounts a few “grace weeks” to change their minds. In the event that they say they will not pay publicly, this waiting will be avoided and the check will be withdrawn.
