Portuguese scientists from the Higher Technical Institute in Lisbon – UTL have created a robot that helps visually impaired children to communicate. It was presented at the ACM/IEEE 2023 International Conference on Human-Robot Interaction.

“The machine moves between different interlocutors and then stops in front of the speaking child, using microphones to show how many words each narrator has spoken. If the child has little interaction among peers, the robot drives him. Dash uses bright and colorful LEDs and expressions to engage or encourage conversation. Special software was developed for the project. Children with any visual ability in the robot,” the developers said.
