The land on which it is possible to grow vegetables was brought to our planet by participants of Apollo missions.
Researchers from the University of Florida, USA, were able to plant plants in the ground brought in from the moon. On Friday, May 13, the Associated Press reports.
The seeds were reportedly planted in the ground, brought to Earth many years ago by Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin and other astronauts, and they germinated.

“Although due to soil depletion, the plants grew slowly and eventually grew,” the newspaper points out.
The complexity of the new experiment is that the scientists had only 12 grams of regolith, that is, a couple of teaspoons of lunar earth.
It is known that land was collected during the Apollo 11, 12 and 17 missions. In the past 11 years, researchers have approached NASA three times for the opportunity to work with lunar regolith. Finally, this opportunity was given to them.
Scientists believe the experiment should be continued, and for further testing it is worth using sites from younger geological sections of the moon.
“The fact that something has grown means we have a really good starting point, and now the question is how do we optimize and improve it,” said NASA Space Biology Scientist Sharmila Bhattacharya.
In the past, astronomers received the most detailed image of the moon’s surface.
