The reason is that 95% of all drugs tested on animals end up being ineffective in humans.
PETA researchers have released a new version of their groundbreaking Research Modernization Deal that ends the use of animals in experiments. Medical News writes about it.
“Animal experiments fail, but the possibilities of advanced animal-free research as described by PETA scientists are growing every day. With additional learning tools outlined in the media this year, the researchers will be better prepared to change and save lives,” said neuroscientist Dr Emily Trannell.
Scientists say there is an urgent need to move to human-related research, without involving animals.
“95% of all new drugs proven safe and effective in animal trials fail in human clinical trials. Failure rates are even higher in disease-specific research areas, including Alzheimer’s disease (96.6%), cancer (96.6%), HIV/AIDS vaccine (100%) and stroke (100%) Research shows that 90% of basic research, most of which involves animals, does not lead to to a cure in humans, but the National Institutes of Health spends nearly half of its annual budget on animal research,” the report said.
It will be recalled that earlier, experts from the Russian Institute of Epidemiology announced that they had developed and registered the world’s first test system capable of detecting the British type of coronavirus.
