Former employees of the company Target pointed out that applications such as facebook they intentionally drain users’ battery.

It was reported new york Post, where it is reported that there are so-called “negative tests”, when the company itself drains the user’s phone battery to test new features.

Negative tests from Facebook

George Hayward, a former data scientist at the company, said he was fired from Target for refusing to conduct such tests.

“I said to the manager, ‘This can hurt someone,’ and she said that by hurting a few, we can help a lot of people. Any self-respecting data scientist knows: don’t hurt people,” he said.

Hayward was fired for facebook in November, for which he filed a lawsuit against the giant in Manhattan Federal Court.

In the lawsuit, Hayward’s lawyer Dan Kaiser said that draining users’ smartphone batteries could put them at risk “in circumstances where they need to communicate with other people, including but not limited to police or other first responders.” .

Employment conditions Target Hayward was forced to withdraw his lawsuit and refer the matter to arbitration.

Bread for every day

According to Hayward, the company provided him with a training document called “How to Perform Reflexive-Negative Tests.”

“I have never seen a more terrible document in my career,” he added.

facebook has long been accused of secretly powering phone batteries. Since 2015, there have been reports in the news of an iOS app consuming a large amount of phone battery even when the app is not open.
