Four parliamentarians from the Perú Libre bench supported this Thursday the admission to the presidential vacancy proposal process against Pedro Castillo. The initiative of Edward Malaga Trillo received 73 votes in favor, 32 against and 6 abstentions. Valdemar Cerrón, Flavio Cruz, Margot Palacios and Anel Reyes They decided to vote for the participation of the President in the plenary session of Parliament.
In the vote, all the benches of the left voted against the proposal, but this did not happen in Peru Libre, because only eight rejected it, and the four mentioned approved, one abstained.
Congressman Valdemar Cerrón acknowledged last Sunday that Peru Libre regrets accompanying President Pedro Castillo because he doesn’t fit the ideology. In this sense, he emphasized that since the pre-election campaign, a change in the Constitution has been promised, but so far it has not been implemented.
“We have to make me feel guilty for leading the political issue through the current president, because he does not fulfill the ideology. It’s not personal, be careful. It’s not a matter of distribution of power, as many people want to say it. We have campaigned to change the Constitution and the Peruvian people will not forgive us if we do not comply in the short, medium or long term,” the parliamentarian said on the Panorama program.
Castillo is due to leave on December 7th.
The plenary session of the Congress also confirmed by vote that the presentation of President Pedro Castillo before Parliament will take place on Wednesday, December 7, so that he can present his defense. On the same day, MPs will debate and vote on whether to approve the president’s resignation in this third attempt to fill the vacancy.
Congressmen need 87 votes to approve a job offer or the process will be archived. However, some opposition parliamentarians are evaluating the search for other methods to remove Castillo from power, such as the removal of the president, which was seen in the commission on the constitution.
Edward Malaga-Trillo hails what has been achieved
Congressman Edward Malaga-Trillo stressed that the vacancy proposal should be taken into consideration, but confirmed that they are still looking for a step-by-step target.
“It’s been 10 months of hard work, not only drafting a job offer, but reaching consensus, building bridges, overcoming resistance, and at this point we have taken a significant step towards the vacancy. Not everything is won, not at all, but this is also reflected in the number of votes (73) that we are moving forward,” he told RPP Noticias.
