Chairman of the Council of Ministers, Hannibal Torresspoke this Thursday in favor of Interior Minister Willy Huerta and asked Congress not to approve a vote of no confidence in him, presented by opposition parliamentarians last Monday.
“I would humbly ask our Congress of the Republic not to remove this minister from us, because it will harm the work that the state is doing in terms of the security of citizens,” the prime minister told the press from Moquegua.
Hannibal Torres acknowledged that parliament he has the power to censor ministers, but he stressed that he thinks he does a good job in domestic affairs.
“The Congress of the Republic has the power to censor ministers, right or wrong. In my opinion, the Minister of the Interior is working hard, he is doing a good job,” he said.
Congressmen from several opposition benches submitted this Monday a vote of no confidence in Interior Secretary Willy Huerta. This is due to dubious changes in the National Police High Command and interference in the work of Colonel Harvey Colchado.
The parliamentarians who signed the proposal note that the legislature should condemn the interior minister “for his political responsibility” and for “inability and unfitness to take office.”
Huerta assured before the plenary session of parliament that the changes in the PPP high command were due to the need to “strengthen the fight against the insecurity of citizens” and ruled out any connection with the investigation against President Pedro Castillo. He also ruled out that the President has any connection with Raul Alfaro Alvarado (Commander General), Segundo Mejia Montenegro (Inspector General) and Vicente Alvarez Moreno (Chief of the General Staff).
APP will vote for censorship
This was stated by the representative of the APP faction, Eduardo Saljuana. PTR that his parliamentary group would support a vote of no confidence in Home Secretary Willy Huerta for “manipulating the police” to influence the succession and work of PNP Colonel Harvey Colchado.
“The APT Caucus has decided to support the above proposal, and 10 MPs are going to vote as a unit,” the congressman told Expand News.
For his part, Diego Bazan, MP for the Avanza País bench, also expressed confidence that the necessary votes would be obtained to censor Willy Huerta.
“Congress has the will that this man (meaning Huerta Olivas) does not remain in office,” he said.
