Despite Gavidia confirming that his resignation has already been accepted, the newspaper El Peruano still has not published the Supreme Decree formalizing his resignation from the Ministry of Defense.
Gavidia resigns as defense minister
José Luis Gavidia opened the day on Wednesday, August 17, by unexpectedly announcing his resignation as defense minister after six months in the cabinet.
Gavidia confirmed his departure from Mindef in statements to RPP Noticias, where he assured that he was resigning for “personal reasons” and ruled out disagreements with President Pedro Castillo and Prime Minister Anibal Torres.
“I have always said that everything has a beginning and an end, I discussed this with the President and the Prime Minister a week in advance.
