Congress President Lady Camones wrote this Sunday to the President asking Peter’s castlethat the necessary steps are taken to ensure the safety of both parliamentary staff and the premises.
The head of the legislature expressed “disagreement” with President Aníbal Torres’ call for civil society organizations to mobilize in Lima, indicating that it was an attempt to “break the democratic order”.
“I am writing to you to express my greetings and at the same time convey my deep concern and disagreement with your statements and the statements of the Prime Minister, Hannibal Torresin which they call for marches of public organizations from different regions of the country to the city of Lima, a situation that could lead to clashes and damage public and private property,” the statement reads, signed Lady Camones.
The President of the Congress insisted that the Legislature be provided with all security measures and thus prevent any acts of violence.
“We ask that you provide the competent authority with the necessary action to ensure the security of both the staff and the premises of the Congress, reminding you of the obligation to comply with this request in order to prevent acts of violence that may be produced as a result of the mobilization called against our national parliament,” Camones added. .
Last Wednesday, August 11, during the first meeting with the leaders of the Metropolitan of Lima and public organizations in Peru, Anibal Torres publicly called on the provincial bases to mobilize to bring the “coup plotters” to their knees and implement the new political constitution.
Anibal Torres criticizes the prosecutor’s office
Chairman of the Council of Ministers, Hannibal Torres, said a few days ago that he respects the fiscal investigation against President Pedro Castillo; however, he requested that this be done in accordance with due process.
“We respect the tax investigation to be conducted objectively, with due process, the presumption of innocence. The rights of the people were respected. We are not going to expose ourselves to litigation in the media, this is quite clear: we are not the media, we transfer the processes of fiscal or judicial investigation,” he said at a press conference.
Torres confirmed that neither the ministers of state nor the president himself are going to submit to the “media courts”. He also argued that this process should be carried out by the competent authority – the Ministry of Public Administration, the judiciary or the Constitutional Court – and “not in the media”.
