Association Transparency criticized President Pedro Castillo this Saturday for delivering an ultimatum to political parties in his recent speech delivered at the 198th anniversary ceremony of the Battle of Junin at the historic Chacamarca Sanctuary. The institution emphasized that the president must always use “the paths offered by the Constitution.”
“Transparency rejects the statements of the President of the Republic, Peter’s castle, who said that he was addressing the opposition political forces for the last time. A democratic leader must never give up on dialogue and agreement and must always use the channels offered by the Constitution, whether from the ruling party or from the opposition,” the organization said in a statement.
Per Transparencyultimatum speeches and threats of the president Peter’s castle they are dangerous because they can legitimize authoritarian discourses.
“We call on the President to correct what was said. Citizens should be vigilant of any attempt to push politics beyond its democratic channels,” concludes the Transparency document.
Pedro Castillo: “You can’t break me”
President Pedro Castillo attacked this Saturday the benches of the Congress of the Republic, which are seeking a presidential vacancy, and called them “coup forces”. In addition, he questioned the press again.
Castillo made a speech at the ceremony dedicated to the 198th anniversary Battle of Junin in the historic sanctuary of Chacamarca. There, he reaffirmed his support for Prime Minister Aníbal Torres and assured that he was starting his second year in office with a “revamped cabinet”.
Peter’s castle he also likened the royalist forces that fought for the Patriots at the Battle of Junin to “coup forces” in Congress and downplayed the number of votes that brought them to Parliament.
Similarly, he raised the possibility of calling for a “national crusade” in defense of democracy and his election in last April’s elections.
The President also confirmed that he is ready to make an effort and lend a hand “one last time” so that the political forces can plan this “wave of democracy.”
“They cannot bend me, they cannot create ghosts of corruption by weakening and nurturing leaflets and making headlines on screens to keep me away from my people. They won’t do it, and I won’t allow it either,” he added.
