Peruvian Press Council and National Radio and Television Society rejected the president’s statements Peter’s castle and they agreed that he once again threatened the press and the citizens’ right to be informed of the charges against him.

In a statement, they recalled that “out of the already habitual insults and insults against the press”, as in his last message to the nation on July 28, the president directly described journalistic production as spreading “false news” to “manipulate citizens”.
“Blaming the press for doing its job of investigating and monitoring power is a strategy commonly used by rulers involved in corruption cases and those with authoritarian overtones. Rather, these two organizations are calling on the President to respond to the allegations through press conferences and/or interviews,” they said.

The legislator said that economic interests are behind the project, approved at the insistence of the plenary session of the parliament. On the other hand, MP Alex Paredes of the ruling Magisterial Bloc justified his group’s support for the project’s persistence despite the government’s compliance with the law.
