Third Vice President of Congress Wilmar Elerapublished in Twitter his apologies to the country for statements he made to the media this morning about the case of Congressman Freddie Diaz’s alleged rape of one of his employees.
According to Elera, his statements were “misunderstoodand apologized for it.
“I regret that my statements made in the media were misunderstood and I publicly apologize for this.. I will always be against mistreatment and violence against women,” reads a statement on the aforementioned social network.
At the request of the President of Congress
At a press conference a few minutes after noon, Elera indicated that her apology was prompted by a request from the President of the Congress, Lady Camones, and that she did not consider it “necessary”. surrender to his position on the board of directors because he “already realized his mistake”
“I have already spoken to the president of the Congress and He asked me to apologize for the incident, that’s why you saw the statement. Because of my masculine conviction, I must apologize (…) Congress is above the problems that congressmen and we keep working”, he claimed.
In this sense, he has indicated that he will not resign from the Board of Directors due to statements “withdrawn”from the context.
“I don’t think it’s necessary, because I’m making a confession, mea culpa, for my mistake in that statements that were just (taken) out of context because I didn’t want to say (it),” he said.
For “his age” and “his upbringing”
In addition, Elera stated that her statements were motivated by “age” and the type of “upbringing” she “received from her parents”.
“Maybe my parents brought up differently my age, you will understand. But the time has come to learn (…) In this sense, I am the father of a daughter, a little girl, I have 4 female granddaughters, I come from a marriage of 45 years and, as such, I’m a family man I am not here to approve the violation,” he said.
Elera noted that what he really meant was that the “environment” in which the alleged crime of sexual assault by Congressman Freddie Diaz was committed was not for the victim, but for the rapist.
“Obviously, I don’t agree that the fact that there are more men and that there is alcohol creates a favorable environment. I meant that this favorable environment was for the rapist, not for the victim. In that sense, I sympathize with the man who was raped, because really, in no context, not because of drinking, not because of most men, not because of how to dress, this should not rape a woman, ” he said.
