Congressional Citizens’ Safety Commission quotes the Minister of the Interior, Mariano Gonzalez, for this July 11, from 10:00 am, to explain the actions taken in response to the kidnapping of a journalistic group in the Cajamarca region.
Formerly First Vice President of Parliament, Lady Camonesalso asked the Chairman of the Supervisory Commission, Hector Venturacall the Minister of the Interior to his working group so that he can report on the actions taken by his sector in response to these events.
For his part, the third vice president of Congress, Patricia Chirinos, asked that the aforementioned member of the Board be invited to be “accountable Congress of the Republicon the actions taken as a result of the kidnapping of investigative journalist Eduardo Quispe and his cameraman Elmer Valdivieso”.
In this case the minister Mariano Gonzalez indicated that he could not claim that it was the ronderos who had detained the journalists from american television, Eduardo Quispe and Elmer Valdivieso, in Cajamarca and assured that he was following the case from the first moment.
“It will be in accordance with the law, there will be a complaint, there will be appropriate investigations, but looking at it from a human point of view, I think the most important thing is that they are safe,” he said.
Reaction within Congress
After the kidnapping of a group of journalists from American television in Cajamarca on Wednesday, Congressman Jaime Quito (Perú Libre) considered that this situation did not qualify as an abduction and that the responsibility of those under investigation would be determined by the relevant authorities after an investigation.
“The appropriate term is retention, not what they indicated (kidnapping). In any case, it should be determined there, we always reject any aggression, no matter where it comes from,” he said.
“We shouldn’t feel bad. Things in the country need to be looked at properly. I think that if something is wrong, I think it is the responsibility of everyone, as well as the media themselves,” he added.
For its part, Congresswoman Vivian Olivos, of Fuerza Popular, described what happened in Cajamarca as an attack on freedom of expression. It also stated that it had requested public service investigate this case to determine responsibility and punish those responsible.
“They are attacking freedom of expression and, above all, the principle of power no longer prevails in Peru. We do not respect the police, we take justice into our own hands, and this should not be. We must not endure,” he said.
“Today I sent a letter to the prosecutor’s office demanding that they open an investigation and punish these people. We can no longer tolerate bullying of the press. Yesterday there was a non-disclosure law, now they are kidnapping the media. What will happen tomorrow?” added.
Meanwhile, Congresswoman flower floor confirmed that it had been agreed at the Council of Spokesmen to summon the Minister of the Interior, Mariano Gonzalezto the Congressional Defense Commission to answer for what happened to the journalistic team and for the actions that will be taken regarding this case.
Finally hethe President of the Congress Maria del Carmen Alvaasked the President Peter’s castle and head of the cabinet, Hannibal Torresto take decisive action in connection with the events that took place in the Chadin area.
“I hope that the president, prime minister, executive branch, come out to dismiss the issue and take action and emails on the issue. Because every time something happens, unfortunately, we do not hear that neither the prime minister nor the president has a few words against what is happening,” he said.
