Minister of Defense Joseph Louis Gavidia, urged this Wednesday the country’s carriers not to go on strike, scheduled for June 27 next year. The head of Mindef said he understands the claims, but stressed that the measure “doesn’t benefit anyone.”
“We are in a difficult economic crisis and I urge carriers to abandon this measure because no one needs it. There are many claims and needs, but we must also understand that this is typical of the global crisis. Fuel is associated with the post-pandemic and the war between Russia and Ukraine, due to which the product is becoming more expensive in the world. The whole country is suffering, food is becoming more expensive, the poorest are suffering,” he said. RPP.
Joseph Louis Gavidia explained that Minister of Economy He has already pointed out why the price of fuel cannot be lowered. In this sense, he indicated that the government had carried out the abolition of taxes on certain essential goods.
“There were commitments that were met immediately, such as the abolition of the selective consumption tax, but, as the economy minister explained quite clearly, fuel could not go down because world oil prices continue to rise. We must be clear. and we need to push the car to get ahead of everyone,” Gavidia said.
The National Transport Workers Union announces an indefinite strike
The president of the National Union of Heavy Carriers, Javier Marchese, said that various unions will go on an indefinite strike on June 27 due to a lack of agreement with representatives of the Ministry of Transport.
“For more than a month, we have been talking almost daily with legal teams, technical specialists from the Ministry of Transport, and today we were waiting for them to give us an answer, because we have already explained and discussed our problems and our proposed solutions, it turns out that today they say that the dialogue continued as if they did not know the problem. We didn’t come to any agreement because we weren’t offered anything,” he said in News RPP.
When asked if they had spoken to Transport and Communications Minister Javier Barranzuela, the UNT leader replied that they had not spoken to the official.
“He went to Arequipa and from there he said that the strike was lifted, that he reached an agreement with the carriers, and this is a big lie. We have 14 associations of people who are connected. The regions of Cajamarca, Paita, we are all connected. We represent 400,000 trucks across across the country,” he added.
