Georgia Voters Face New Restrictions Enacted By Republicans After 2020 Election –

Atlanta (AP) – Tuesday’s elections in Georgia marked the biggest evidence of a new voting restriction launched by Republicans in one of the nation’s most notorious fighting states, as voters cut primaries for governor and in the United States Senate.

Election officials, election workers and voters followed new rules imposed by the GOP -controlled legislature and the Republican governor following the 2020 presidential election amid allegations of joint efforts by former President Donald Trump for his defeat. There are baseless allegations of fraud.

They added mail-order restrictions, restrictions, and changed rules, which could make it more difficult for voters with election day problems counting ballots. However, there is no evidence of widespread fraud. It changed the results of the 2020 presidential election in Georgia, which Joe Biden won with approximately 11,800 votes.

Electoral groups have observed long queues, confusion among voters, problems with the voting mechanism or any other problem that may interfere with voters during voting. By mid -morning, no serious or systematic problems had been reported in Georgia. There have been sporadic reports of delays in the opening of polling stations, minor equipment problems and misguided voters.

Tuesday’s vote marked the end of a record period of early voting in Georgia. By Friday, approximately 860,000 ballots had been cast, most of them in person rather than by mail. State election officials said voter turnout rose 168% from the 2018 primary and 212% more than in 2020.

Republicans cite early voting numbers as proof that Georgia law, known as Senate Bill 202, will not hurt voters.

“Again, the facts believe the narrative of‘ voter suppression ’on the left,” said Jason Sned, chief executive of the Honest Elections Project Action, a conservative group that supports stricter voting laws.

Georgia was among three states, along with Alabama and Arkansas, that held a regular primary on Tuesday. Texas holds the primary for the Attorney General and Democratic Congress, while Minnesota holds the special primary for former Republican Congressman Jim Hedgorn, who died in February.

Election officials in Atlanta Fulton County attributed the relatively quiet morning of Election Day to a large number of early voters. An estimated 91,000 voters voted in the strong Democratic constituency by mail or in person during the state’s early voting.

“I haven’t heard that long queue at this stage,” Nadine Williams, director of registration and elections, told reporters. “Most voters went to the polls early.

Proponents of his case have worked to make the actual transcript of this statement available online. Trump’s non-aggressive attack on ballot papers also affected voter confidence.

On Monday, about 72,000 of the nearly 97,000 ballots requested by Georgian voters were returned by mail. Approximately 1,300 applications were rejected due to earlier new deadlines, which is 1.4% of all applications arriving. These voters, if they can, can vote in person on Tuesday.

Major Texas voters were forced in March with new identification requirements, leading to an abnormally high rate of rejection of mail ballot papers. Lawmakers in Alabama and Arkansas also reduced the deadline for requesting absentee votes.
