Prime Minister Alberto Oarola referred to the statements Minister of education, Oscar Becerra, who called the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) “money” and emphasized that this is not the position of the government. In addition, he mentioned that the head of Minedu would be called on Tuesday at 4:00 pm to talk about it.
“This is not the position of the government. Government respects international conventionsespecially the Pact of San José, which was ratified by our country in 1979 and will act accordingly in this respect. Today at 16:00 we have a meeting with the Minister of Education,” he told reporters.
On the other hand, he commented on a possible conflict of interest between current Sunedu superintendent Manuel Castillo and the appointment of Santos Montaño as rector of the National University of Piura (UNP).
“Government rejects any conflict of interest this affects the honesty and meritocracy in the state. Therefore, at 16.00 we called the Minister of Education, who, by the way, has a representative. He doesn’t decide. Sunedu is an autonomous body. But we will take measures and will have an adequate response from the government,” he added.
Superintendent Sunedu appointed Santos Montaño as Chancellor of the National University of Piura.
Manuel Castillo Venegasthe head of the National Authority for Higher University Education (Sunedu), appointed Santos Montaño as rector of the National University of Piura, who is a friend and former client of his, according to information from the program end point.
In response, Montaño admitted that he knew him as a lawyer, but denied any conflict of interest.
“Where is the conflict of interest? (…) he was a professor there at the university, but this does not mean that there is a conflict of interest (…) of course, I know him, I know him as a lawyer,” the ruling over Manuel Castillo.
