Foreign Minister Ana Gervasi announced that they had asked the government to Mexico transfer of the presidency pacific allianceis approved in Article 12 of the Framework Agreement of the Alliance and Vienna Convention under the law of international treaties.

The request, he clarified, was sent through a letter addressed to four member countries of the Pacific Alliance. Gervasi mentioned that the organism is a tool for commercial integration and that the government will protect it and ensure that its use is not “politicized”.

“(…) The Ministry of Foreign Affairs sent a message to the Government of Mexico, with a copy to other members, offering consultations for the implementation of the transfer of the interim presidency to Peru without further delay, in accordance with the provisions of the Framework Agreement and the Vienna Convention on the Law of Treaties,” he said.

In this regard, the Minister of Foreign Affairs at a press conference reminded the Mexican government that “refusal to transfer the provisional post of President pacific alliance would entail the international responsibility of his State.”

“The Government of Peru will not refuse to maintain the Pacific Alliance and exercise its interim chairmanship, which corresponds to it in accordance with international law,” Gervasi added.

Inquiry of former foreign ministers and former deputy foreign ministers

On the other hand, former foreign ministers and former deputy foreign ministers issued a joint statement stating that the government Mexico “violates a legally binding international treaty”, referring to framework agreementrefusing to hand over the presidency of Peru.

“Respect for treaties is the rule that allows the peaceful coexistence of states, and is the principle that regulates the relationship of integration, economic and social development, harmony and respect between countries,” the statement said.

In the same vein, they supported Peru’s request to Mexico for a Pacific Alliance chairmanship “which is based on the dispute settlement mechanism” provided for in the Framework Agreement “so that the non-compliance resulting from the relationship” of the Mexican country is put to rest.
