Alejandro Mugnante, third vice president of Congress, spoke out against the parliamentarian’s bill. Alex Flores which proposes that the media be required to broadcast a daily quota of national production in music and cultural programs.
In accordance with Everything is known RPP Noticias considers this initiative “extremely dangerous” because it goes against the freedom of business and information. He also specified that the project would force the private media to intervene in the situation.
“Regulation or interference in the communications sector, which is overwhelmingly private, I believe that this is state intervention that should not be allowed,” said the parliamentarian from popular update.
“That’s right, and the ideological line of the government can change overnight, and this can force companies to promote such an ideology. It is extremely dangerous,” he added.
Project
The project of parliamentarian Alex Flores (Peru Libre) passed through the commissions for transport and communications and the commissions for culture and cultural heritage of the Congress, where at the end of March opinions aimed at changing the Law on Radio and Television were approved.
These opinions suggest that open broadcasters are required to dedicate at least 30–40% of their daily programs to the dissemination of folklore, national music, and series or programs related to culture or reality.
The initiatives also indicate that the Ministry of Transport and Communications will only issue or renew licenses to broadcasters that can prove that they have met the minimum program distribution percentage and copyright fees.
I wouldn’t have support
In this regard, Mugnante pointed out that during popular update The issue was not discussed, but he said he did not believe it would be successful if it made it to the plenary session of Congress.
“I think the vast majority of congressmen don’t like it. We haven’t discussed it yet, we haven’t seen it yet; however, my personal position is this. We have always been concerned about promoting economic freedom and business freedom, and I believe that this directly threatens business freedom,” he said.
“Freedom of information is also because if a citizen watches a certain TV channel, it is because he wants to consume what this channel produces, and not what the state imposes on him,” he said.
