Minister of education, Oscar Becerraappeared today, Thursday, in the plenary session of Congress to face three requests submitted against him by different pews.
At the meeting, which began at 10 am and continued until noon, the head Minedu answered a total of 42 questions from the aforementioned interpellation petitions approved on 23 March.
At the end of the meeting, the Minister Tresierra calf He referred to the derogatory words he uttered against protesters against the government and Congress in early March, which motivated the interpellation motions at today’s meeting.
“I don’t understand why they expect me to apologize”
minister calf He pointed out that in his controversial words, he was not referring to the Aymara mothers who came to protest in the capital and were subjected to police repression in the center of Lima.
“If I never spoke of Aymara mothers, I don’t understand why I have to apologize to them. The one who should apologize to them is the journalist who hinted that it was they who mistreated their children, when I meant adults in general, such as the men shown in the images (…) carrying children, walking on demonstrations where there was clearly an impact of the hazard,” he said.
In addition, the head of the department of education emphasized that his statements were motivated by the “exposure of boys and girls to danger” by “adult men” who led them “by the hand”.
It should be noted that during interpellation calf he had already stated that his expressions “had not a general, but a specific connotation.”
“I never mentioned Aymara mothers. As we saw in the media, there will be promoters who will promote violent protests in the capital, so the specific decision should be made by the relevant authorities,” he stressed.
It is also worth noting that on March 8, as part of Women’s Day, the minister apologized for his remarks.
“I do not want to end without an apology for some of my unfortunate phrases that have been misinterpreted and criticized. I want to say that if any of my expressions were wrong, I offer my sincere apologies. At the same time, I reaffirm my absolute defense of the girls and boys of Peru and emphasize the self-sacrifice of women who are able to give their lives for their children, while I condemn people who use girls or children for political purposes, because there is nothing more reprehensible than this ” , he said in a video message that day.
Delivery of educational materials
On the other hand, the head of the education department referred to the supply educational materials at the beginning of the school year. In this sense, he emphasized that all the stocks available in warehouses Minedu.
“We checked that our obligation to deliver all the materials that we had in warehouses was fulfilled. Our duty is fulfilled to deliver them to UGEL. It is true that due to a problem in the budget law, it was not possible to transfer the necessary funds to the regional governments with the last tranche,” he said.
However, he emphasized that in this “last stretch” the responsibility lies “withgeneral”with regional governments and that he has no information on how many materials have been received.
“This last stage is the responsibility of the regional authorities. General responsibility in the sense that we had to transfer funds, but in particular, how much material reached each of the schools, I have no information”, he pointed out.
Similarly, he claimed that the need for training materials was not 100% met, but 100% of the available materials were delivered.
“We can only provide what we have, not what we don’t have. Due to the very inefficient planning of the previous management, we do not have all the materials available in the warehouses of the Ministry. Nobody cared about it (…) Not everything is planned for the year; but everything that was, was delivered. So, 100% yes, but what was there, what was planned for the year? No, because you don’t have”, he stressed.
