Permanent Commission of Congress agreed this Friday afternoon to ask the judiciary to prevent Congressmen Betsy Chavez and Roberto Sanchezas part of investigations that both face an attempted coup on December 7, 2022.
By 18 votes in favour, 3 against and 0 abstentions, the Permanent Commission approved the demand put forward by the Chairman of the Subcommittee on Constitutional Charges, Lady Camones, before Power of attorneyin connection with the inclusion of both former congressmen in the final report prepared by said working group on the constitutional complaint filed by the National Attorney, Patricia Benavidez.
An approach
During a speech in front of Standing CommissionCamones pointed out that it is necessary to ensure constitutional denunciation by taking restrictive measures against the accused. He added that the final published report issued by Subcommittee on Constitutional Charges and, in which both congressmen are included, voted in favor.
Similarly, he pointed out that there are already precedents for congressmen who have used their prerogatives to evade or evade justice. This is added to the statement by Interior Minister Vicente Romero about the suspension of the work of the parliamentarian Betsy Chavez herself, her security and bodyguards, appointed by parliament. He therefore pointed to the possibility that both legislators could try to evade justice.
“We offer as a member Standing Commission request, in accordance with the law, that the judicial authorities establish the maximum measure of restraint for leaving the country, established by section 2 of law 27379, to former high-ranking officials of the state, Betsy Chavez Chino And Roberto Sanchez Palomino before the imminent possibility of absconding justice, as they are included in the final report of the 328 constitutional complaint filed by the National Attorney regarding the crimes of sedition and conspiracy typical of our Penal Code,” he said.
Office of the Attorney to Congress
This decision of the Permanent Commission followed after it became known that the country’s prosecutor’s office, Patricia Benavidez, presented Congress a document to determine the possibility to apply for preventing the exit from the country in respect of the former prime minister and congresswoman Betsy Chavez under investigation for an unsuccessful coup. This was announced by the Deputy Prosecutor Marco Juan Munoz.
IN Air Rotaryrepresentative public service explained this by saying that former prime minister faces a political court in parliament, it is the power of the state to process the above claim.
“The State Department has already submitted a document to Congress that has the authority to process exit barriers against the investigated congresswoman Betsy Chavez. […]. After the ruling on a constitutional charge, the deputy restores this competence to take any coercive measures, personal or real,” he commented.
