The Fuerza Popular bench, together with the groups Alianza para el Progreso and Somos Perú, presented a proposal with the aim of interrogating the Minister of Defense, Jorge Chavez Crest. The purpose of this initiative is to force the head of the Ministry of Defense to respond to the soldiers who drowned after forcing the Ilawe River in the Puno region.
The interpellation petition, which may be made public at tomorrow’s plenary session, is aimed at finding out more detailed information about the events that took place on March 5 during the transfer of a patrol from Ilawe to Juli, in Fist.
Franz Canas Cahuaia, Alex Quispe Serrano, Elvis Pari Quiso, Elias Lupaca Inquilla, Percy Alex Castillo Pongo and Carlos Quispe Montalico drowned in this place. The interpellation contains a total of 13 questions to be answered by Defense Minister Jorge Chavez.
At the plenary session of the Congress, an interpellation will also be made to the Minister of the Interior, Vincent Romero and he will notice a vote of no confidence in Congressional President Jose Williams, who was represented by left-wing groups.
The Ministry of Defense will give pensions to relatives
Relatives of the six servicemen who drowned in the Ilawe River in Puno will receive a lifetime pension, the Department of Defense (Mindef) announced last Tuesday. This amount will be equivalent to the current remuneration received by a non-commissioned officer of the 3rd class of the specified military institution.
The Mindef also said that about 76,000 soles will be provided to relatives for life insurance payments. The other appointment they will receive corresponds to a posthumous grant award of 2,700 soles.
The soldiers who died in the Ilawa River have been identified as Franz Canasas Cahuaia (20), Alex Quispe Serrano (19), Elvis Pari Quiso (19), Percy Alex Castillo Pongo (19), Carlos Quispe Montalico (24) and Elias. Lupaca Inquillas (19).
According to the Joint Command of the Armed Forces, the accident occurred when the battalion was trying to cross the river Ilawe in front of the municipal massacre to avoid a group of protesters who attacked them with stones, sticks and leather whips. The survivors indicated that the inhabitants of Ilawe cornered them and, to save their lives, they had to cross the Ilawe River, making a human chain, but when they were attacked, six of them fell into the river and died, and seven more were injured.
