After the discussion of early elections, the President Constitutional CommissionHernando Guerra Garcia, noted that irreconcilable positions still exist on some benches. However, he specified that the discussion will continue at the next meeting of the parliamentary working group.
“We are going to include some texts and some declarations. But there are positions that are incompatible. It must be clear that 23 or 24 is chosen, it is chosen with a Constituent Assembly or without a Constituent Assembly. And these positions will be those that will lead to a vote. It must be borne in mind that in some cases positions are irreconcilable.: either there is a Constituent Assembly, or there is no vote. And in other cases, it can be transferred. This is what you are going to look for (…). I hope that at the next session we will be able to continue to deal with this issue,” he told reporters.
“If the Constitution does not specify the path that the change of command is on July 28 (2026), we must choose one of two: or government less than five months or more than five months done. These are the two paths that remain because otherwise the elections would have to take place in April and take office in July,” he added.
“It would not be responsible to fall into a vicious circle”
On another occasion, Guerra Garcia mentioned that if no consensus is found this year, the debate will continue next year.
“There is always the possibility that consensus will not be reached and will fall into some kind of vicious circle. I think it will not be responsible. In any case, I suggest that the members of the commission decide on their positions and vote. And if, finally, there are no early elections for this period, then this will be seen next year.” finished.
