A task force of the National Police of Peru (PNP), backed by prosecutors and other police units, has been conducting searches since early Tuesday morning of seven homes in Lima and Callao of individuals associated with former President Pedro Castillo as part of an investigation into an alleged criminal organization.
The police operation is being carried out in accordance with the decision of the Preparatory Court of Inquiry of Lima issued by Judge Soledad Barrueto of the Tenth National Preparatory Court of Inquiry.
Arrest of El Espanyol
RPP news arrived at one of the raided houses located at 635 Paraiso Street in La Molina, which belongs to Jorge Ernesto Hernandez Fernandezalias “El Espanyol” or “Jorge”.
According to the tax document, El Espanyol had the task of recruiting hitmen to carry out an assassination attempt on PPP Colonel Harvey Colchado and other members of a special team while investigating the former president’s government.
The Public Ministry reported through its social networks that the Special Group of Prosecutors for Combating Corruption of the Government had provisionally detained Jorge Ernesto Hernandez Fernandezis being investigated on suspicion of crimes of a criminal organization and corruption of officials.
Other houses searched
The operation also searched property (Surco) owned by Henry Augusto Shimabukuro Guevara, a former presidential adviser. Pedro Castillo; owned (San Isidro) by Spanish citizen Sergio Castellanos Martinez; and at the home (Magdalena del Mar) of PNP Colonel Jorge Fernando Cassanov Cubas, former director of DIGIMIN.
