Congress President, Joseph Williamsreported that Council of Representatives will be the one who decides whether to resume the debate on early electionat the request made the day before by legislators from different benches.
However, after repeated rebuttals of the various proposals presented, can a consensus be found? Is there political will on the part of Congress to approve early elections?
this morning in News extensioncongressmen Hector Acuna (not grouped) Wilson Soto (People’s Action) and flower floor (Purple Party) analyzed this issue.
Acuña regretted being put in this situation, to the point of becoming “subject” to the agreement reached by the Council of Representatives. Due to this uncertainty, he said, “we don’t know whether this issue will be raised or not.”
“In my case, it has always been clear to me, and even more so that we have already made progress. We waited for the second vote and moved forward. It’s a big disappointment for me that we are so confused,” he complained.
“I insist that it has always been said here “we are all leaving”, but it seems to be just a name. If we understood the concept better, the Executive and Legislative Powers would agree on a good project, a project that we have not rallied at the moment,” he added.
For the legislator, as the resignation of President Dina Boluarte is required, the possibility of leaving the current Congressional Board of Directors should also be considered, given that “there is a lot of wear and tear.”
“No Will”
For its part, Congresswoman flower floor doubts that there is no “will” to approve early election in the Legislature, given that some of his colleagues want to stay until 2026.
“If you look at what the congressmen are saying who were talking about the early elections after the last vote was given, the truth is that I think it was calm and they said: “We are all staying here.” Unfortunately, there is no such will, no readiness to provide this solution,” he said.
“The main issue is that there is no will to move in Congress, no votes. We have the last option, hope is the last thing we have lost,” he added.
Finally, the congressman Wilson Soto He said he favored early elections “but with minimal reforms”; for this reason, he tended to have the legislators remain in their positions until the end of their term.
For an acciopopulista to go to early elections, “the country must be pacified”. “We are not going to go when the country is on fire, when there are checkpoints, when public institutions are on fire,” he said.
