The oversight committee convened this morning David And Walter Paredesbrothers of former First Lady Lilia Paredes, to testify as witnesses within investigation of alleged corrupt practices in the implementation of investment projects financed by the municipalities of Angia, Chachapoyas and Chadin.
spoke first David Paredeswho admitted that he lent 90,000 salts to businessman Hugo Espino, despite the fact that they only met in 2019, and the loan was issued in 2021.
“I deposited 70,000 soles into his personal account, and he asked me to deposit 20,000 soles into his sister’s account. In total, 90 thousand soles were paid. I have not made any other deposits to your account or to someone else’s account. I have known Mr. Espino since 2019 and I took out a loan in 2021. I gave him a loan because he was working here in the municipality of Angii, he was working in Tacabamba doing consulting. There he gave me the confidence to make him a loan. In addition, he gave my sister a job, and I did not see any bad intentions from him, ”he said.
He also said that the amount should be returned with an interest rate of 5%. However, he stated that so far he has not received a single salt of borrowed money.
“Still. He didn’t give me back a single salt. I gave him a loan of 90 thousand soles at 5% per annum. Then he told me that in six or eight months he would pay me 90,000 soles plus the corresponding interest. No (there is a document). Just a word between him and me. Perhaps it was a mistake that I made by not playing a good part. I trusted him and it all happened,” he added.
Walter Paredes: “I don’t know Hugo Espino”
Meanwhile, Walter Paredes, another brother of Lilia Paredes, denied knowing businessman Hugo Espino. Similarly, he mentioned that he did not know the former mayor of Anguia, José Medina.
“I don’t know him (Hugo Espino). Neither (referring to José Nenil Medina Guerrero). I know that he was mayor of Angia, but we don’t have any relationship (…). My brother begged me to deposit into Sister Hugo Espino’s account because there is no Continental Bank here in Tacabamba, there is in my province of Chota. Since I work from Takabamba to Chota, I did him a favor and transferred the funds to Sister Espino’s account,” he concluded.
