He National Penitentiary Institute of Peru (INPE) announced Tuesday that it has opened a new administrative disciplinary process against former President Pedro Castillo.

As stated, the reason may have been a “purported interview” that the former president gave to a media outlet called www.elsaltodiario.com. In this sense, a second case was brought against him after he was imprisoned in the Barbadillo prison.

In a statement, the institution indicated that it did not give permission for interviews inside the prison, in addition, it recalled that a process had already been initiated by a letter that it published on Twitter.

“January 26 INPE initiated administrative disciplinary proceedings against a prisoner for an alleged disciplinary offense in relation to a letter signed and published on the social network Twitter, the same that is under investigation, so that the Penitentiary Technical Council determines any liability in accordance with the law, ”the document says .

Pedro Castillo he remains in Barbadillo prison for 18 months as part of an investigation into alleged crimes of sedition and conspiracy. However, his social media account remains active.

Castillo Terrones’ defense has demanded that the precautionary measure placed on his sponsored restricted turnout be changed to allow the former president to conduct the trial at large. However, this was not successful.

Litigation against Castillo continues

Permanent Commission of Congress on Tuesday will evaluate the final report of the Subcommittee on Constitutional Accusations, which recommends indicting former President Pedro Castillo for alleged crimes of criminal organization, influence peddling and conspiracy.

The constitutional complaint submitted by the National Prosecutor, Patricia Benavidezgoes all the way to Juan Silva and Gainer Alvarado as former ministers of transport and communications, as well as housing, construction and sanitation, respectively.

If approved, the final report, supported by Avanza País congressman Diego Bazán, must be put to a vote in the plenary session of the Congress.

On February 1, the judiciary declared unfounded a previous issue raised by the legal defense of former President Pedro Castillo, who sought to cancel the trial against him for the alleged crime of sedition. Despite this, the ex-president continued the presentation of several court documents.

Pedro Castillo’s defense also petitioned the judiciary to annul a congressional resolution that placed his vacancy due to permanent moral incompetence. The request was made as part of an amparo action signed by Castillo Terrones and former Defense Secretary Walter Ayala.
