CPI: What do Peruvians think of the protests and actions of Dina Boluarte, the armed forces? what about PNP?

When almost two months have passed since the start of protests in various regions of the country, which claimed the lives of 58 Peruvians in clashes or events related to roadblocks, ICC collected opinions about these manifestations, the answer Government and law enforcement in an overview presented exclusively in RPP News.

According to the study, 44.9% of Peruvians say they disagree with the protests, while 15.1% say they strongly disagree with these demonstrations. 19.2% said they agreed and 3.4% said they strongly agreed. At the same time, 14.3% indicated that they neither agree nor disagree with protests.

Among the motives protestsrespondents believed that the protesters demanded the resignation of Dina Boluarte (33.3%), changes to the Constitution (11%), calling new elections (8.1%), creating chaos or instability in the country (7.2%) and closing the Congress (6 ,2%) and others.

Responsible for protests and deaths

As to who is responsible for violent protests31.6% pointed to Dina Boluarte11.2% to Congress, 10.7% to the government and 8.4% to Pedro Castillo. 5.7% of those polled blamed left-wing political groups, 4.9% of the population and 3.5% of infiltrators. 1.5% blamed the protests on the Sendero Luminoso or Movadef terrorist group.

ICC also asked who is considered the main culprit of deaths in protests. 31.9% mentioned the President Dina Boluarte, 7.9% to protesters, 7.6% to the government or state, 7.3% to the national police, 5.9% to Congress, and 5.7% to former President Pedro Castillo. In addition, 4.3% said that the main culprit of deaths is the people, 4.0% pointed to left-wing groups, 3.2% to infiltrated criminals, 2.3% to terrorists and 2% to the Armed Forces.

Armed Forces and National Police

As part of the protests taking place in various regions, Armed forces are the only institution that studies ICC whose approval outweighs his rejection. 47.3% approve of it and 47.1% reject it. It is in Lima and Callao that it receives the most support with 64.2% positive reviews, while the highest level of disapproval is found in the south-central highlands of Peru with 70.3% rejections.

Referring to National Police, 45.5% of those surveyed approve and 49.2% reject their work. The institution also receives the highest approval in Lima and Callao with 61.5% positive reviews, while it is rejected by 74.1% of those surveyed in the central and southern highlands regions, the regions of the country where the highest number of clashes are recorded. between protesters and law enforcement.

Respondents also assessed the actions of the police during the clashes. 49.5% believed that the PPP acted excessively, and 30.6% believed that it acted appropriately in the circumstances. 16.1% indicated that PNP more decisive action should be taken against the protesters.
