Peruvian judiciary chief Javier Arevalo asked the president on Monday https://rpp.pe/noticias/javier-arevalo what Armed forces protect the country’s judicial headquarters, as 14 of them have been attacked and 7 have been set on fire since anti-government protests began last December.
“I decided to apply to the President of the Republic with an official letter asking Armed forces protect the court premises, and I hope that the President of the Republic will give us his support, since the guarantor of internal security and order is the executive branch,” Arevalo said at a press conference.
He also asked the other Powers to play the role that suits them “according to Constitution and with the high interests of the country.
Regrets “use of violence”
Pointing out that a total of seven offices of the judiciary were set on fire and 14 were attacked, Arévalo Vela denied and deplored the aforementioned facts that affect the justice services provided by this institution to the detriment of citizens.
“We deplore the use of violence and the destruction of public and private property, we are especially concerned about the attacks on the premises of the courts, which means not only material damage, but also an encroachment on the normal functioning of the justice system,” he said. .
“We must respect the rule of law and uphold what is set out in the Constitution and laws, the separation of powers and measures against abuse and transparency,” he said.
The judiciary also expressed its sincere condolences to the Peruvian families of the civilian victims and the police officer during the recent protests against the government, reaffirming its call for unity among Peruvians.
“The whole country mourns the loss of our compatriots. I call on all Peruvians to unite in order to restore our country in an atmosphere of peace and democracy. Our country does not deserve any new attacks by the Peruvians, nor any action that stops development and violates our social peace, ”he stressed.
